Chapter 15: I’ve got this Tyrant’s back

All other thoughts were swept away. They locked eyes and they could each see grimness in the other.

Gu Yuan might not be completely clear on situation, but Lu Deng had a good idea. The system faked the monitoring very well. When Lu Deng came out, he made sure to carefully close the cell door once again. The alarm would go off sooner or later, but it shouldn’t be right now.

Unless someone went to visit his cell.

They had deliberately chosen to escape in the middle of the night to find a gap where no one would check the prison. For someone to check at this time, meant that they must have had a special reason for doing so.

Because of the sudden incident, there appeared changes in the originally meticulous line of defense by the sentries. The defenders looked around in a panic. Accidentally, they revealed some gaps that normally wouldn’t be.

If they wanted to get out, they must decide as soon as possible.

Planet Guar’s army has always been well-trained and groups of defenders rushed to the prison. Gu Yuan held his arm across Lu Deng, shielding him in the shadows. He took out the dismantled parts tied to his calf and assembled it into that pure black super particle gun. He stuffed it into Lu Deng’s hand. “Take it and wait for me to come back.”

Except for that token given to him by the boy, this gun was the only thing he brought in with him, hidden closely on his body.

Lu Deng guessed what he was thinking and a bit of worry appeared in his eyes. He stepped forward to grab his arm, but Gu Yuan took advantage of his movement to take him in his arms instead. He kissed his forehead lightly. “Count to a hundred. .”

This was the promise he had made in prison. He had broken his promise twice before. This time, he wasn’t going to let himself make any mistakes.

The man’s sturdy figure quickly plunged into the darkness. Lu Deng gripped the super particle gun in his hand, and a nervous electronic voice came in his mind, “Host, Planet Guar’s government forced a peace talk. It was the Guar Army’s Marshal who went to the cell. He was planning to torture the mission target tonight!”

Lu Deng paused slightly and finally had a realization.

For the military, peace talks meant that all their hard work had been destroyed. One could well imagine just how angry the Guar’s Marshal must be.

If they hadn’t happened to escape from prison tonight, the Marshal might have torn Gu Yuan apart alive.

Although they had escaped this disaster, it was not difficult to imagine how the Guar Marshal became filled with anger and killing intent upon seeing an empty cell. He must have exploded in rage.

“Don’t worry anymore about the surveillance on the cell. Just block the life monitoring instrument they implanted on the target and don’t let them locate his position.”

Lu Deng replied in his mind, looking up at the figure in the guard tower. Lu Deng’s figure jumped into the air, quickly climbing up the outer iron ladder to reach the top. While holding the gun in his mouth, he turned his body over and leapt in from the window.

The guard in the guardhouse was still shaken by the alarm when he saw someone suddenly enter. Shaken with fright, he was about to shoot when the figure swept past him. He felt severe pain at the back of his neck and his consciousness instantly blurred.

Putting the last guard down on the ground, Lu Deng carried the gun in his hand and walked quickly to the window, determining Gu Yuan’s position.

Gu Yuan was going to grab their getaway car.

The military patrol ships were all parked in the designated area. The situation was very chaotic right now. News of their escape has quickly spread throughout the prison, people were searching for them everywhere. Now was their only chance to escape.

In this situation, getting away on foot would be simply impossible. If they get a patrol ship maybe they can still have a chance.

The pitch-dark cover of night was their best concealment. Gu Yuan’s figure, lying low, quickly flashed past a few teams of sentries. Several high-ranking officers were standing in front of the patrol ships that were ready for launch. Pieces of their conversation were sent by the wind to his ear.

“…Planet Galileo is on a winning streak… Secretly being supported… peace talks, the marshal was furious…”

Gu Yuan remained motionless, silently hidden in the night, but his pupils burst with dazzling light.

It’s finally come.

He once thought that he would never live to witness his home planet’s victory, but he unexpectedly was fortunate enough to live up to this point.

Even if he didn’t see the resistance’s unstoppable advance with his own eyes, and didn’t have time to appreciate the Guar Marshal’s expression as he flew into a rage out of humiliation, his gamble had paid off and he was very content.

The blood in his body surged. He was finally able to lay down the worry that had always occupied his mind. Now there was only one last thing that must be done.

Live. Live.

Gu Yuan raised his hand and pressed the Pingan Kou against his chest. The warm wood quietly pressed against his chest, like the boy’s unrestrained hug.

Carjacking was full of dangers, but it was the only way to survive. Although Lu Zhiguang’s skills were superb, he was not very good at driving a levitating car. Though he could drive for a while under auto-pilot, while practicing at the villa, he often drove the car into their flowerbeds.

Gu Yuan has been feigning civility with the Guars for a long time and Gu Yuan has often ridden on the Guar’s patrol ships. He was clear on it’s internal structure and also knew very well how to drive one.

Having him do this was the most suitable arrangement. Only he could do this.

The reason why Lu Deng hadn’t stopped him when they were below that guard tower, was because he undoubtedly knew this.

Cold sweat slid down his forehead. Gu Yuan took a deep breath, trying his best to stay hidden, he approached the empty patrol ship.

Everyone knew that he had been through severe torture. Even if they guessed that someone had helped him escape the prison, they never thought he could get very far. The patrol ships were only being held in preparation to widen the search area. No additional security was added to guarding it.

A glimmer of hope.

The officers were still talking, and the soldiers were busy searching around. Gu Yuan walked around, keeping within their blind spot. He pressed and pulled the hidden buckle under the ship door, opened it manually and jumped in.

The patrol ship floated silently. He was about to mix in with the teams searching the surroundings, but an officer coincidentally looked over and clearly saw the face in the boat. His eyes burst into surprise.

Gu Yuan had one hand on the control panel. Their eyes met and his heart suddenly tightened.

When he was tortured, this officer was with the Guar Marshal.

He recognizes the other party and the other party has also undoubtedly recognized him. The officer was about to cry out in alarm. Gu Yuan’s eyes darkened. Looks like he would have to give up the idea of of doing this covertly. He raised his hand, ready to press the button to activate the on-board weapons.

Before he could press the button down, the officer suddenly opened his eyes wide, his gaze slackened and his body collapsed.

And then a second and a third.

Panicked shouts erupted from their surroundings. The well-trained soldiers instantly judged the source of the attack. Bullets were fired into the curtain of night towards the direction of the hidden assassin.

The light in Gu Yuan’s eyes suddenly froze.

His body reacted before he was fully conscious of it. The patrol ship roared to life and hurried desperately back to the guard tower.

*

Lu Deng turned around, pained, and sat down under the window with a tumble. Blood soaked through his shoulder and a soft light gathered in his eyes.

“Host……”

The system’s electronic voice in his mind revealed some hesitation.

“The Galileans have already understood what the mission target was doing. Gu Yuan is no longer a traitor condemned by the public. He has also seen the dawn of the resistance’s victory. No matter whether the mission target manages to live from this point forward, his destiny has already changed. The host has already completed the task…”

These days, the host’s body has been overdrawn. And just now, he had taken the explosive drug to provide that fire cover for Gu Yuan. As a result, his body was injured. Even with painkillers, he must definitely be feeling very unwell.

Gu Yuan’s escape from prison has been discovered, Galilean representative for the negotiations had yet to arrive. The subsequent stages will only become more and more dangerous. Given Lu Deng’s current physical condition, it would be extremely difficult to stay. If he does, he might even face the threat of death.

Although death in the mission world was not real, the oppression and despair brought about by that moment were still clear enough to make many people feel traumatized.

If he chose to quit now, you wouldn’t have to endure all this. His characters in this world will also end up dead. Although it would be a bit hasty, he could immediately separate from the current situation and the task would also be completed.

The system cautiously urged, unable to bear seeing the host take another much harder road.

“Does this even count as changing fate?”

The side effects of the explosive drug could already be felt. His body was starting to turn cold from excessive blood loss. Lu Deng squinted his eyes and held the gun in his palm.

This shouldn’t be counted.

Gu Yuan’s wish was to live, to live well with him; to live in a peaceful land, without any threat of war and without any need to shoulder such heavy responsibilities.

This was the destiny that Gu Yuan should have.

Gu Yuan should have him as part of his fate.

The system was a little anxious. It tried to find painkillers and healing medicines for him to use. It was about to try to persuade him once again when Lu Deng spoke softly: “…One.”

“What?”

There were no other people around, and it didn’t realize that the host hadn’t spoken this word in his mind. The system was startled and asked, but Lu Deng continued to count. “Two.”

Gu Yuan asked him to count to a hundred.

He could count slowly, until Gu Yuan came to pick him up.

*

Before long, a strong gale suddenly swept through the window.

The metal sampan extended, and Gu Yuan opened the patrol ship’s protective barrier. He jumped in amidst the gunfire. His eyes fell on the boy under the window and blood almost dripped from his eyes.

Despite this, his movements were still stable, even steadier and calmer than usual. He held his breath and avoided the young man’s still bleeding wound. He nimbly leaned forward and took the young man into this arms.

The boy was pale but he still smiled quietly at him. His pale lips moved, as though he wanted to talk to him.

Gu Yuan kept moving. He jumped back into the patrol boat, but he carefully kept the other wrapped in his arms, allowing him to lean against his ear.

“Twenty-three……”

The young man spoke, his soft and pure voice was quickly drowned out by the sound of gunfire and the roar of the patrol boat.

Gu Yuan’s eyes grew blurred.

“I’m late. Next time, just count until ten.”

He tried to stop his voice from shaking. Gu Yuan steadily embraced him, and quickly manipulated the patrol ship to throw off their pursuers, diving into the darkness.

As a company president, he had a few hobbies that proved useful when making connections. Gu Yuan had practiced racing cars when he was young and he had elevated his skills to the highest level. He sped through the air so fast, it almost made a sonic boom. For a while, their pursuers remained close on their heels but his evasive maneuvers caused the pursuing ships to collide into each other. The rest of the ships were taken out by tongues of flame from their ship’s cannon.

Gu Yuan pulled out the first aid kit and handled the wound on Lu Deng’s shoulder.

The young man lay quietly on the bed in the cabin. His eyes were still fixed on him, a thin smiling expression over his eyes. The young man was trying to reach out and hold his hand.

Hot tears flooded his eyes as Gu Yuan held the other’s hand. He lowered his head and kissed his fingertips that still smelled of gunpowder. Taking him in his arms, he peeled of the other’s blood-stained clothing.

The system had impatiently given him all the painkillers in one breath and Gu Yuan had injected him with an anesthetic. Lu Deng didn’t feel any pain. He just quietly stared at the man’s tight jaw. His gaze roamed over his cheeks, and fell into his seemingly bottomless dark pupils.

All the fear, depression, and pain vanished in the light of his slightly drooping eyes. Gu Yuan’s movements were gentle and nimble. He focused on dealing with the wound on his shoulder, his eyes were so focused it was like he couldn’t deal with anything else.

Lu Deng suddenly wanted to hug him.

The young man in his arms suddenly started to move. Worried that he would accidentally hurt him, Gu Yuan held his breath and stopped his movements, his eyes falling nervously to the form between his arms.

He had already tied the bandage but hadn’t had time to cut off the excess. Lu Deng brought forth the remaining strength in his exhausted body. He leaned over to hug him, raising his hands to wound around the other’s taut back.

“I’m here.”

Gu Yuan’s body suddenly trembled. His arms, taking care to avoid the other’s wounds, tightened suddenly. His breathing turned ragged. Heavy wheezes boomed loudly into the other’s ear.

His gasps for breath so rough, it seemed as though he were weeping blood. Lu Deng moved, not quite steadily, trying to see his condition, but he was pressed tightly against the other’s chest.

Gu Yuan’s lips moved soundlessly, trying to say something. Only an indistinct, raspy breath could be heard.

Lu Deng leaned in his arms and slowly patted the man’s broad back until he calmed down before he finally straightening up and read his lips.

Although his life level hadn’t changed, Gu Yuan’s expression was not much better than his. Fixedly staring at him open and close his mouth, Gu Yuan finally made audible the two words that had been repeating over and over, “Thank you…”

His chest trembled slightly and unfamiliar sense of anguish grew.

Gu Yuan held one of his hands. The other had been injured so that he couldn’t lift it up. Before Gu Yuan could react, Lu Deng had leaned forward and kissed his cold lips, blocking him from saying those two words.

He stayed, not just for Gu Yuan.

What he wanted to change was not just Gu Yuan’s fate.

There was still a long way to go. From here on out, they would only face even more life-threatening dangers. They have to survive together. They have to return to Galileo together and do so many of the things that they’ve thought of but never had the chance to do.

He never thought about leaving.
